Wildcat Fans,
Our wrestlers sent a message this week as they dominated in both their Wed. duals with Amherst and Heritage and the weekend 16 team tournament held at Harrisonburg High School. Beginning on Wednesday, we outscored the other 2 teams by a combined individual match record of 20 wins vs only 4 losses. The success continued over the weekend. In a remarkable 2-day run, the Wildcats ran away with the team title in Harrisonburg! Rockbridge scored 232.5 points with the second place team only able to muster 157.5 – in the wrestling world, this was certainly a drubbing. One of the most exciting elements of this hard fought victory is that the Regional power, Turner Ashby, was the second place team. By beating TA this soundly, Rockbridge has definitely sent a message loud and clear. There were multiple major wins this weekend as Jake Ailstock beat Richard Harrell from Tabb who is currently Ranked 3rd in the state, Judah Bruce beat Daniel Sivinski from East Rockingham currently ranked second in the state (single A), and Add Siler defeating 7th ranked Brad Johnson from host school Harrisonburg. The following are the individual placements:
· Jake Ailstock 103 lbs, Champion
· Ross Hinty 120 lbs, 4th place
· Koda Wagner 138 lbs, 2nd place
· Matt Hoofnagle 145 lbs, 2nd place
· Judah Bruce 152 lbs, Champion
· Quentin Youngblood 170 lbs, 2nd place
· Add Siler 182 lbs, Champion
· Angelo Harris 220 lbs, Champion
· Austin Moore HWT, 2nd place
· Allen Chappell HWT, Champion
Side note:
The wrestling program is looking for a couple of good managers. The duties would include keeping win/loss statistics, organization and management of the equipment, assist in writing and distributing press releases, videotaping of the matches, making highlight video for end of season banquet, and other assigned duties as seen fit by the head wrestling coach.
The program is also looking for adults to become involved in multiple avenues. There are plenty of ways to help these young men realize their goals- even if you have never been involved with wresting before. For example, wrestlers enjoy peanut butter and jelly after weigh in! If you have been looking for a way to give back to your community, we can think of no program better suited to helping mold the next generation. Please contact coach Kingery or coach Bruce if you would like to get involved.
